UCLA CAPITAL PROGRAMS ANNOUNCES BID RESULTS FOR PAULEY PAVILION PROJECTThe Pauley Pavilion transformation project has taken the final step in its planning stage. On February 17, UCLA Capital Programs concluded the official bid process with the receipt of construction bids from pre-qualified general contractors. UCLA is pleased to announce that PCL Construction is the apparent low bidder. The bid process began in December 2009 and included four general contracting firms that were evaluated on previous work with arena projects and other pertinent construction criteria. PCL has worked on major arena projects including the Staples Center, Key Arena and the Air Canada Centre. They also have experience working on the UCLA campus as the general contractor for the Spieker Aquatic Center, the Life Sciences Building, and the Northwest Campus Housing Project. In compliance with the public bid process for construction projects at UCLA, PCL and UCLA Capital Programs will finalize the official construction contract over the next 3 weeks in order to begin the project. Based on the February 17th bid results, the project is expected to come in under its original $185 million total cost estimate. "We are very pleased with the results of the bid process for the Pauley Pavilion project. "Our entire UCLA team is excited to begin this project with PCL who will work with us to create a showcase facility for our student-athletes and the entire University." The current timeline calls for construction of the project to begin in March 2010. For the first year, the work will be focused on the north side addition and structural work on the exterior of the facility. At the conclusion of the 2011 basketball season, the building will close in order to begin construction on the interior of the facility. All programs currently held in the venue during the building closure in 2011-12 will be moved to alternate sites until the completion of the project. UCLA Athletics will provide updated information on all remaining elements of the project and campaign as details become available. The transformed Pauley Pavilion is scheduled to open in Fall 2012. UCLA Athletics continues to generate the financial resources for the Pauley Pavilion project through the Campaign of Champions.
